Who we are

Generator Handbook is an independent information resource for standby generator owners. We do not sell, install, repair or warrant generators, and we are not a licensed contractor.

What we collect

When you submit a request form, we receive what you type into it:

• Your name and the contact details you choose to give (phone, email, contact preference).
• Location details — ZIP code, and city/state if you enter them.
• Project details — what you need done, timing, property and fuel details, and your message.
• Technical context about how you arrived: the page you submitted from, the page you landed on, the referring site, and any campaign tags in the link you followed.

If you apply as a contractor, we receive your business details, service area, capacity and licensing information instead.

How we use it

• To review your request and decide whether we can route it.
• To pass qualifying homeowner requests to independent generator professionals covering your area, so they can contact you.
• To respond to you about your request.
• To understand which pages produce requests, in aggregate.

We do not sell your details as a general marketing list, and we do not add you to a newsletter because you submitted a request.

Who we share it with

Homeowner requests may be shared with independent generator companies so they can respond. Those companies are separate businesses, not part of Generator Handbook. Once your details reach them, their own privacy practices apply — we do not control what they do with the information, and you should ask them directly if that matters to you.

Coverage varies by area. If no independent professional covers your area, your request is not shared.

We also rely on service providers to operate the site:

• Netlify — hosting, and the form submission store.
• Resend — sends the notification email to our own inbox.
• Google Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement, when it is enabled.

Analytics and cookies

When analytics is enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and measure which pages lead to requests. We deliberately do not send names, email addresses, phone numbers, ZIP codes or message contents to analytics — only structural values such as the page path, which form was used, the project type, and the service area token.

Google Analytics sets its own cookies or similar identifiers. You can block them with browser settings or an extension; the site works without them.

How long we keep it

Form submissions stay in our Netlify Forms store and in the notification email until we delete them. We do not operate a separate customer database.

Your choices

• Do not submit the form if you do not want your details shared with an installer.
• Ask us to delete your request. Contact us through the contact page and we will remove it from our store.
• Tell any company that contacts you to stop, directly. They control their own contact practices.

Emergencies

Do not use any form on this site to report an emergency. If you smell gas, see smoke or sparks, or have a live electrical hazard, contact your utility or emergency services.

This notice describes current practice in plain language. It is not legal advice and makes no claim of compliance with any specific privacy or telemarketing law. Formal compliance language — including any state-specific rights, consent requirements for calls or texts, and data-subject request handling — is pending professional review, and this page will be updated when that review is complete.
